GDPR and WWDC

The June meeting was held on Friday the 8th. We had a presentation on the recently introduced GDPR data privacy regulations and chatted about the many software announcements made at the WWDC 2018 Keynote.

GDPR

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force on the 25th of May causing, among other things, many companies to e-mail us with updates to their privacy policies and asking us to consent to further communication. Denesh gave us some background on the changes to data protection and privacy rules, how they affect the general public and organisations, and answered member’s questions.

Denesh has kindly provided a copy of his presentation.

WWDC 2018

We talked through the many announcements made by Apple at the recent WWDC Keynote which focused almost entirely on software. The announcements included iOS 12, macOS Mojave, watchOS 5 and tvOS 12. Particular highlights were the ARKit 2 demonstrations featuring shared experiences (multiple people looking at the same AR objects) and persistence (AR tied to a location or object); and the new security and privacy features coming to both macOS and iOS. All these OS updates will be available to the public this autumn.

Apple have good overviews of many of the the new features:
