At our last meeting of 2022, held on December 9th, we had the customary Apple quiz, talked about recent Apple news and some of Apple’s “best of the year” recommendations. Members also shared a number of topics.
Apple Quiz
Robert hosted our annual Apple triva quiz with questions about new OS features, Apple history and trivia. Congratulations to DaveK and Ben for getting the joint highest score.

Denesh discussed his positive experiences with MacFamilyTree, which was picked as the best Mac app, and Logoist by the same developer.
Apple News
We discussed recent Apple news including:
- Apple Music Sing is coming in iOS 16.2 and will allow singing along karaoke style to many Apple Musc songs.
- Apple is introducing end-to-end encryption for most iCloud data.
- Physical security key support is being added to AppleID.
- The “Everyone for 10 minutes“ option is coming to AirDrop worldwide in iOS 16.2.
- The Apple Self-service repair programme is now available in Europe including the UK.
- Belkin have released an AirPods cleaning kit.
- Apple have launched a redesigned Apple Music Replay showing users a listening summary for 2022.
Member topics
- DavidB told us about his experience moving custom email domains to iCloud email. Denesh noted that it’s now possible to buy a custom domain via Apple if you don’t have one.
- Denesh mentioned using the “Send Later” feature added to Apple Mail in iOS 16 and macOS Ventura.
- He also showed us the neat folding 35W dual USB-C charger (with US plug) and mentioned changing AirTag batteries.
- DaveK and Denesh talked about their experiences using Mastadon, a decentralised social media network. DaveK’s handle is @davidkennedy@mas.to (using the mas.to server) and Denesh’s is @dxb@social.secret-wg.org (secret-wg.org server).
- DaveK recommended the short horror film Host, currently available on iPlayer.
- Ben recommended photo books from Mimeo Photos and noted that the books he ordered this year were printed in the UK and arrived very quickly.
- Liz sent a recommendation of the online ablum and photo book printing service myalbum.com.
- Ben mentioned that Adrian’s Records, long a fixture in Wickford, is closing in 2023.
