Meeting Report: 12th August 2011

With the release of Mac OS 10.7 Lion, we spent most of this meeting discussing the new operating system. Members explored features such as full-screen applications, Versions and Mission Control. Dave presented a selection of tips and tricks he’d found while using the new OS.
We also discussed the latest Apple news including the latest Mac mini and Mac Book Air updates.

With Mac OS 10.7 Lion due later this month we spent most of the meeting discussing our upgrade plans and how best to prepare. Suggestions included checking hardware compatibility, making good backups and identifying incompatible applications.

SEAL members discussed Apple’s announcements at the recent World Wide Developer Conference including iOS 5, iCloud and more OS 10.7 Lion details.

Sonia gave us a very interesting presentation on her on-going project to build an Apple-based media centre to play content on her TV. She showed us an original Apple TV and a Mac mini based media server she had configured and explained the advantages and disadvantages of each device. On the Mac mini she had installed the free Boxee media centre software and had also configured the system to be usable on the TV with a wireless Magic Trackpad and Keyboard.
We also discussed the latest Apple-related news including the iPad 2, Thunderbolt and the release of Firefox 4.
March Meeting Cancelled

SEAL Member John Hudson sadly passed away recently and his funeral is being held on Friday the 11th of March. As a mark of respect we have decided to cancel the March SEAL meeting which was due to be held on the same day.
John will be greatly missed at our meetings and everyone at SEAL sends their condolences to his family.
